BEER AND WINE. 40/29’s EMILY MAHER TELLS US WHAT THAT MEANS FOR OTHER SMALLER BUSINESSES. SHE’S LIVE IN ROGERS. PAIGE, TARGET DOESN’T HAVE ANY ALCOHOL ON THE SHELVES JUST YET – THE ALCOHOL BEVERAGE CONTROL MUST FIRST APPROVE THEIR PERMIT. BUT, ONE LOCAL LIQUOR STORE TELLS ME THEY’RE NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE COMPETITION. nats KC Lynch, BJ’S Liquor: “we have a real nice section of shiraz” KC LYNCH WORKS A BJ’S LIQUOR IN ROGERS. IT’S JUST DOWN THE ROAD FROM TARGET. HE SAYS EVEN THOUGH.. (SOT KC Lynch, BJ’s Liquor) “we’ll have to be competitive with their prices, of course” HE’S NOT WORRIED ABOUT BEING OUTSOLD BY THE COMPETITION. (SOT KC Lynch, BJ’s Liquor) “we offer a selection on wine that they don’t have there, so there’s not really that much competition there for us” TARGET HAS SUBMITTED AN APPLICATION FOR A PERMIT TO SELL BEER AND WINE. BUT THEY’RE NOT THE FIRST BIG RETAILER TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS. WALMART ALSO SELLS BEER AND WINE IN THEIR STORES. Nats: “the large retailers like Walmart and Target can carry those” LYNCH SAYS IT’S BEER SALES THAT WILL BE THE BIGGEST COMPETITION. BUT, SAYS IT’S WHAT’S ON THE SHELVES THAT KEEP HIS CUSTOMERS COMING BACK. (SOT KC Lynch, BJ’s Liquor) “we can be competitive in all areas, even in the beer. We have a much better selection of beer than Target or Walmart will have” IF APPROVED, THE ROGERS TARGET WILL BE THE SECOND TARGET IN OUR AREA TO CARRY BEER AND WINE. THE FORT SMITH TARGET ALSO SELLS THE BEVERAGES. THE FAYETTEVILLE TARGET DOES NOT. REPORTING LIVE IN ROGERS, EMILY MAHER 4029 NEWS. EMILY, THANKS AND IF THEIR PERMIT IS APPROVED, TARGET WILL SELL SMALL FARM WINES AND BEER. A STORE REPRESENTATIVE SAYS THEY WILL NOT BE SERVING DRINKS IN THE STORE.
