Nutrition Tips : How Long Before the Effects of Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar Are Shown?

By Brian Lemay 51 comments

My name is Christine Marquette and I’m a registered
dietitian with the Austin Regional Clinic and I’m going to talk to you about how long
before the effects of apple cider vinegar are shown. This is kind of a broad question
and it really depends on what type of effect you are talking about. For example apple cider
vinegar does tend to be very tart so that effect of feeling that tartness that sourness
you might get that little look on your face that’s going to be immediate as soon as you
taste it. Somebody who is trying to use apple cider vinegar for weight loss, they are going
to be waiting a long time because it doesn’t necessarily help with weight loss. One of
the studies that showed a modest effect took four weeks and there was only a two pound
weight loss at the end of those four weeks. So again that’s one study, it’s about the
only study that’s shown very, very much effect for weight loss in particular and again it
was a very modest effect. As far as diabetes goes, there’s actually more research being
done in that area and that’s something that did show more of an immediate effect in some
people. And some of the studies typically the dose that was used was two tablespoons
immediately before a meal. And in these people they did see a reduction in their blood glucose
values after their meal as compared to the days that they ate similar meal without the
vinegar. So that was a fairly immediate reaction just how ever long it took them to actually
eat their particular meal. They waited two hours after and then they tested their blood
glucose and it was a few points lower. I believe the drop was between four and six percent
in the groups that had been studied. So for diabetes glucose in some of the preliminary
research it had shown an effect within a couple of hours. So again it kind of depends on what
effect you are looking at and the other thing to keep in mind for somebody if you do have
diabetes you don’t want to go out and try to treat yourself just using apple cider vinegar.
Remember these are very preliminary studies, there’s only been a few done. There isn’t
enough actual hard evidence to go out and recommend using two tablespoons of apple cider
vinegar to actually treat your diabetes.

2. you only lose 2lbs. in a month

@sublimityeternal Yeah it is good, but my point was that this is a terrible video.
ACV is great though, it completely healed my acne and helps a lot if you have a sore throat. I even use it for my hair and it prevents my scalp from getting itchy.

Geeze – What apple cider vinegar DOES DO is lower the appetite if you drink a tall glass of water with organic unfiltered AC vinegar. And with a lower appetite you won't eat as much and that's why you may loose weight. You can also cut your regula portions in half – no AC vinegar needed for that one.
I frink it every day and like it. – to each its own

My roomate is a type two and we just started the ACV drinking each morning. He is looking better in his face and he feels better so far. I did however wonder if the honey in the concoction made his numbers go up also?

Lost 3 pounds in 6 days on it. Half a table spoon with about 10 oz of water and teaspoon of honey. Once per day. Just saying.

It's always a DR saying how natural stuff doesn't work so you can keep going to them. I had cancer and an oncologist told me not to eat right and said it wouldn't help my cancer. Needless to say I chose another health care provider.

I don't know where she got her studies from but I as well as others I know have found a difference in a week. I understand that everyone is different but to say it will take a month+ is incorrect.

Thanks for the medical information. I thought about using the vinegar, but I changed my mind and just started exercising, eating right, taking a protein shake called EAS Soy Protein Shake, and I try to get plenty of sleep. I Just started on Feb. 1, 2016 and today is Feb. 5 2016 ..I haven't weighed myself yet and I'm not interested as of right now…but maybe within a month I'll weigh myself. It's too early to tell at the moment.

this given what food is being consumed as well. its going to be harder to lose weight if you are eating tumasic food. combing a good diet with ACV one will see great results. don't skimp on your self

Understanding that for most/many that if blood glucose goes down after drinking Apple Cider Vinegar 4-6% (1:35) that would help account for the "modest" weight loss she talked about earlier. Insulin is the body's hormone the body uses to store fat. The lower the sugar the lower the fat

I am doing it again for the 3rd time and and like a few others than myself it hasn't worked. Actually my hair stylist experience plenty of bloatness like myself . I'm doing everything like everyone else but this just doesn't work for me. But I just been laying off eating too much starches and substitute honey for sugar I hope that I will see some results. here's hoping.

Before criticizing a research-based opinion that defers with your perception or anecdotal-based belief, READ THE LITERATURE! Google scholar, with randomized control trial studies as the ideal high quality standard.

"I think he looks better" and "I lost ten pounds this month" does NOT mean that ACV is absolutely the cause– what other factors played in? Did you drink more water, eat less sugar, walk more, or do any of the things that research proves help with weight loss?

If you're looking for ACV to be the "magic pill" for your own lack of self control, poor diet regulation, and lack of physical activity, you're probably already making changes from your normal fattening routine that you're not even aware of, which contribute to weight less visible while you're experiencing the placebo effect of ACV.

So stop being uneducated. Look at the human research yourself– studies who are not funded by ACV-producing companies, for a start. You'll see there's not much clout behind this old wives' tale, except the summary that she gave.

#Einstein. You don't need to know everything– you just need to know where to find the information you need.

Not accurate. I have been doing it for 2 days now. 2 TBSP 3 times a day with water and cinnamon and have lost 1.5 lbs already. It helps with water retention and the aid in digestion. It also helps boost metabolism so as to burn more calories… so I believe this is fake news.

Not at all accurate. ACV lowers the glycemic index of the foods you eat when it’s present in the gut. Meaning your insulin won’t spike as high. Fat is burned when insulin levels are low.

Lemon water does the same thing.
