Diet Tips : Drinking Alcohol on a Low-Carb Diet

Hi, this is Rachael Richardson, with Nutrolution,
in South Beach, Miami, Florida. In this clip, we’re going to talk about how to drink alcohol
on a low carb diet. Now, I work with a lot of people who are on low carb diets, and I
myself follow a low carb diet. Some people think that you can’t safely or reasonably
drink some alcohol, and that’s really not true. In fact, sometimes a glass of wine or
of your favorite drink is a, is a great way to relax. It helps your neurochemistry, and
helps you sleep better at night too. So, I don’t promote a lot, but a little bit is okay.
And some good choices are a red wine, and I generally recommend organic wines, so a
nice organic red wine would be a great choice. A glass of white wine is perfectly fine. Especially
something that’s less sweet, like a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. If you want to have a
cocktail that’s okay too; however, try to stay away from those kind of really fruity
and sweet drinks like those Midori Sours, or those certain Martinis. One other trick
that I just wanted to mention to you is to think about having a glass of sparkling water
with just a touch of lime or real cranberry juice. And this actually serves its way as
a cocktail, but it’s very, very healthy, and practically sugar-free. This is Rachael Richardson,
and this has been how to drink alcohol on a low carb diet.

So beer and liquor are completely out of the question? I like wine but I'm a mechanic, we need cold beer! HelP?

Liquor is perfectly fine because during distillation the sugars are used, and I know it seems gay but Michelob Ultra aint that bad…

why in god's name do people go on low carb diets? Just eat less calories than your body uses in a day. If your body burns 2300 calories a day then eat 1800 per day and you'll lose a pound a week. Eat whatever you want just don't eat too much. So many people are wasting their time.

For partiers: Vodka and Diet Coke. Gets the job done. Just drink lots and lots of water before bed and you body wont feel hung over in the morning.

At the risk of sounding pretentious I've got a degree in physics and I'm about to graduate from medical school and your calories in/calories out way of thinking is grossly over-simplistic. While it's obviously true that if you burn more calories than you consume you will lose weight that doesn't mean anything when it comes to dieting. You have to change the way your body's metabolism works in order to burn more and make your body want to consume less. That's why people do low carb diets.
